About Me

MICHAEL MAKOVI
ISRAEL

Who am I? I'm Michael Makovi, a random 20-something year old former-yeshiva student, having spent three years in yeshivat Machon Meir and one half-year in Yeshivat Petah Tiqwa. I am originally from Silver Spring, Maryland, and I am temporarily on break there in America, away from home in Israel.

Left: Me in front of yeshivat Machon Meir
Right: Me in my old dorm at Machon Meir, holding copies of the Dor Revi'i (black) by Rabbi Moshe Shmuel Glasner and ha-Halakhah: Koha v'Tafqida (blue) by Rabbi Dr. Eliezer Berkovits. Rabbi Berkovits learned under Rabbi Akiva Glasner, the son of Rabbi Moshe Shmuel Glasner. Rabbi Berkovits's book, and the haqdama (introduction) to Rabbi Glasner's both expound an understanding of the Oral Law in which the halakhah can change over time.
This blog is a collection of my thoughts as they happen to occur to me, usually either from a left-wing Modern Orthodox perspective, or a right-wing perspective on Israeli politics.

Some of the authorities I most prominently follow include Rabbi Samson Raphael Hirsch, Rabbi Moshe Shmuel Glasner, Rabbi Dr. Eliezer Berkovits, Rabbi Dr. Marc D. Angel (and concomitantly, Rabbis Benzion Uziel and Hayim David Halevy), and others of like mind (chiefly German and British Neo-Orthodox); and Rabbi Meir Kahane and Moshe Feiglin.
